The Precision Bass was a huge success from the start, and Leo Fender initially saw no need to expand his product line in this direction. It was Don Randall who urged Leo to create a new design to complement the lineup. The Jazz Bass first appeared in the Fender price list in July 1960, priced at $279.50. The name and body design were influenced by the Jazzmaster, and the slimmer neck compared to the P-Bass, with its comfortable playability, was intended to entice even more double bassists to switch.

Here is the authentic reissue of a '66 model with the typical "U" neck profile of those years, pictured in the original on page 147 in "Fender - The Golden Age." The bass sounds fantastic, both powerful and delicate in all positions, and when you first play it, you immediately understand why many bassists want no other instrument for the rest of their lives!
