Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster 1955 HREL HSS Floyd Rose Lime Green MB Austin Macnutt

Austin Macnutt built this green monster for us—and he did a fantastic job! Even unplugged, the tone is incredibly rich and powerful—something many Floyd Rose-equipped guitars fail to deliver quite as convincingly. Speaking of Floyd Rose: we opted for the "recessed" version on this model, allowing the player to go wild with both upward and downward pitch bends.
To faithfully transform that basics to the amp, this Strat is equipped with an EVH humbucker (featuring a chrome cover) at the bridge and two hand-wound FAT60s single-coils (with the middle pickup reverse-wound). The EVH delivers the expected punch at the bridge—and with a DC resistance of 13.37 kOhms, it does so impressively. It isn't designed for sparkling, clean PAF tones; however—as we noticed with one of our previous Strats featuring the same pickup configuration—it harmonizes beautifully with the middle Fat60s in the intermediate switch position. Here, the single-coil’s character dominates, while the EVH adds a touch of extra flavor to the mix. Great sound!
Many of this Strat’s other specs will be familiar from our previous Custom Shop orders: a lightweight ash body, a 12-inch radius fretboard with 6105 "Narrow Tall" fret wire, subtly rounded fret ends, and circuitry featuring a "Tone Saver" treble bleed. Austin designed the burn mark on the headstock to match the EVH humbucker.
