Fender Custom Shop Telecaster Custom 1959 TCP Chocolate 3 Color Sunburst

By the late 1950s, the Telecaster had firmly established its reputation as a premier work tool. Nevertheless, Fender wanted to offer customers some new incentives. The change from the one-piece maple necks to necks with a rosewood fingerboard was already decided in the fall of 1959. In order to make the Tele appear visually more high-quality, the regular model was given a “custom” version with double binding on the top and bottom. The competition from Gibson was probably not innocent in both decisions (Rosewood fingerboard and binding).

Here is a very nice reissue of the very first '59 model. Equipped with hand-wound 58 single coils that fantastically transmit the lively and dynamic basic sound. This is exactly how you imagine a good Tele!

When it came to the fretboard radius, Fender was inspired by some rare originals, whose 7.25" vintage radius became a little flatter in the upper registers. The pleasant effect of improved playability and the possibility of making the string position more comfortable were probably already noticed back then. This reissue also features Medium Vintage frets (47095), which are slightly larger than the Vintage version and are very comfortable to play.

This Custom Tele offers a NOS flash coat finish, Closet Classic hardware, a 2-piece off-center alder body, a Rift-Sawn Maple neck with a “59 Large C” profile that feels wonderfully in your hand, a 1-piece pickguard from the early models and of course lots of fun to play!

This wonderful custom Telecaster has been an integral part of the Fender range since 2017. George Blanda, co-founder of the Custom Shop and Fender veteran, is responsible for this. His name is still written on the spec sheet to this day!
