Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster 1969 Relic MB Ron Thorn Bright Sapphire Metallic

In just two years working in the Fender Custom Shop, Ron Thorn has developed into an absolute specialist for unusual and breathtaking instruments. The very special guitars (such as the "Game of Thrones" models) quickly landed in Ron’s hands and with good reason he received the "Principal Master Builder" award - a novelty in the history of Fender! In fact, this is only the first of a series of other extraordinary models that Ron is currently building in collaboration with Guitar-Place!

Has anyone ever seen such an unconventional pickup combination on a Strat? Probably not ... but therein lies the very special appeal of this sapphire blue beauty from the hands of Ron Thorn. Two custom P-90 pickups in the bridge/middle position and a Seymour Duncan "Pearly Gates" humbucker with an artificially aged nickel cover in the neck position open up completely new and unexpected soundscapes and sound possibilities for its player! Correctly, the bridge P-90 was installed at the same angle as the single coil that is usually located there – here you can immediately see the attention to detail and the care with which Thorn has produced this unique instrument from the Fender Custom Shop.

The exclusive use of selected tonewoods, such as light alder wood for the body and a "medium tint" maple neck with a "round lam" rosewood fingerboard is a guarantee for a first-class tone with plenty of punch, resonance and sustain. The neck in "60 Oval C" format with a 9.5 inch radius feels pretty good in the hand. The fret ends were trimmed relatively straight by Ron Thorn so that there is plenty of space on the high E string for bendings and fast solos. The playability in this composition is just a dream! The circuit of this Strat remains close to the vintage specification, i.e. the two potentiometers regulate the overall volume as well as the tone of the neck and middle PU‘s. For tonal reasons, Thorn installed a Tone-Saver Treble Bleed Circuit, in which the volume is reduced without loss of treble.

With this Custom Shop Stratocaster 1969 Relic in the heavenly color "Bright Sapphire Metallic" and with an authentic relic aging, Ron Thorn has once again outdone himself. Not an anonymous instrument, but a unique piece of master build craftsmanship with the very special "Thorn" character.
