Fender Custom Shop Telecaster 1967 SH Heavy Relic RW Daphne Blue Ron Thorn

Description

It's also about time that a Telecaster from Ron Thorn finally arrived again in our shop and for sure a great example of how well co-working with him is ! Our luthier Daniel first met Ron at NAMM in January 2019. At this point, Thorn had just started working as a master builder in the custom shop. Nevertheless, he was well known in the scene - through his own guitar company and some special work that he and his father had done for the Fender Custom Shop, he already enjoyed an excellent reputation. An invitation followed immediately and a week later Daniel met Ron again, this time directly in the Fender Custom Shop. Many of the ideas that were discussed back then are still being implemented today in almost every guitar that is ordered. One of them is not to round the fret ends too much and thus simply have more space for vibratos etc. This is also very nice to see with this Tele.
As for the guitar itself: a traditional '67 Telecaster modified with a humbucker in the neck position. The body is made of premium lightweight alder. The neck profile here is a modern "C" and the Round-Lam fingerboard ("sorted for dark") made of a very dark, almost black rosewood. Great! The 47095 Medium Vintage was chosen for this Telecaster, which initially looks almost like a regular vintage fret wire. However, it is almost as high as the 6105 and this is gratefully acknowledged during the first few bends.
The lively and dynamic basic sound is optimally transformed by the selected PU's. A hand-wound '67 single-coil on the bridge pearls and pops that it's pure joy. The "Pearly Gates" by Seymour Duncan was developed at the time as an absolutely authentic copy of the PAF, which is located in the neck position of Billy Gibbons' famous '59 Les Paul. A wonderful alternative to the bridge pickup for bluesy licks with its clarity and warmth !
