Originally intended as a low budget model, the Gibson SG Junior has become an insider tip among guitar purists. The SG Junior was reduced to the absolutely necessary: simple body, no binding, simple bridge, only one P-90 "Dogear" pickup in the bridge position, plus a volume and tone control, and that was it. But ... often less is more! Just like an old saying goes: "You only need ONE really good sound, nothing more!" The installed P-90 dogear pickup offers just the right amount of crunch and fat sound – more biting than a single coil, but not as queasy as a humbucking pickup. Pure vintage sound! This is exactly why the SG Junior is still used by famous artists in Blues and Rock music up to this day.
Here is an authentic reissue of a 1963 SG Junior from the Gibson Custom Shop. Equipped with all the precious ingredients that guarantee an excellent sound: Mahogany body, Indian rosewood fingerboard, a powerful Gibson Custom Dog-Ear P-90 pickup and "Paper-in-Oil" capacitors. As a special feature this Custom Shop 1963 SG Junior was equipped with a "Lightning Bar Wraparound Tailpiece" bridge – a bridge construction that was used on the first Les Pauls in the 50s. This special bridge gives the SG Junior a very direct and dynamic sound.
