After the end of the Woodstock festival, where Jimi Hendrix performed his legendary version of the "Star Spangled Banner", he seemed to be looking for new guitar sounds. In September 1969 Jimi Hendrix appeared on "Dick Cavett's TV Show" with a 1967 Gibson SG Custom and for the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 Hendrix ordered a left-handed Gibson Flying V directly from Gibson. A detailed reissue of this legendary guitar is now available as a Limited Edition in a right-handed version.
Responsible for the amazingly authentic "Aged Ebony Finish" of the Hendrix Flying V 1969 Reissue is none other than Custom Shop "Artisan" Tom Murphy, who recently became head of the "Murphy Lab" – a subdivision of the Gibson Custom Shop. This guarantees an artificial aging of the instrument at the very highest level. Like everything about the impressive replica of this Black Beauty is only of the finest quality! Artificially aged golden hardware, two Custombuckers specially developed for this model for classic blues and rock sounds as well as an ABR-1 bridge and a Maestro Short Vibrola.
In the development of this noble Flying V in 1969, every detail of the original was measured and analyzed in meticulous detail in the Gibson Custom Shop. Since the specifications of the original were adhered exactly, an enormous level of detail could be ensured. This Flying V 1969 Reissue from the Gibson Custom Shop comes very close to the Hendrix' original! High-quality mahogany was used as the material for the body and neck, which forms the basis for a first-class rock sound with plenty of sustain. For the fingerboard with 22 frets, 12 "radius and an "Authentic '67 Flying V" profile, fine ebony was used, decorated with the typical" Mother of Pearl Split Diamond "fingerboard inlays.
Last but not least, there is a cool guitar case with the label "Band of Gypsys - Handle with care" as well as other interesting case candies: COA, Historic Reissue Hangtags, "Authentic Hendrix" Truss Rod Cover, 5 Hendrix™ Picks and a Limited Edition 8x10"archive picture by Jimi Hendrix (Courtesy of Kramer Archives; signed by engineer/producer Eddie Kramer).
