Quite a few deserve the predicate "guilty" when it comes to the success of the Gretsch brand in recent decades. In the 1950s, Chet Atkins, one of the most influential guitarists of his time, was hired as a co-developer and endorser and drove the brand to unprecedented heights. With his involvement, the 6120 became Gretsch's most famous model and it wasn't a long time till numerous big names in the music business, from the Beatles to rockabilly stars like Eddie Cochran and Duane Eddy, had fallen for the unmistakable Gretsch sound.

After Fender took over the management of the company and celebrated unprecedented success with its own Custom Shop instruments, it made sense to have various Gretsch models meticulously handcrafted in Corona, California. With Stephen Stern, Gonzalo Madrigal and Chad Henrichsen, just 3 master builders are involved in the production of these instruments and the delivery times are correspondingly long.
