How can you improve an almost perfect instrument? When the first Custom 24 appeared in stores in 1985, they already had a fabulous reputation. Rightly so, as it turned out, and the brilliant Paul had only to change small details over the last 40 years. He had already created the perfect guitar. Even the humbuckers from back then (Vintage Bass / HFS) are still in the range today, although PRS now offers some alternatives.
For the 20th anniversary, Paul Reed Smith gave the Custom some visual changes in the form of new fingerboard inlays, new potentiometer buttons and a truss rod cover with a "20th Ann" engraving. The beautiful 1-piece maple top that the model shown here is equipped with was never part of the options list at PRS. Sometimes available, mostly not. Not only visually, Sr. No. 5 102215 is in excellent condition and shows only minimal signs of wear. Technically, everything works just like it did on the first day, and it's all original, right down to the accessories. A guitar that's almost as good as new, and the sound has matured even more in 20 years.
