With the rising of Surf music in the early 1960s, the Jazzmaster, like the Fender Jaguar released in 1962, then became icons of Surf music. In August 1964 the Mustang was added to the program and was offered as a so-called "Student Guitar", which should cover the market segment of inexpensive beginner instruments. And with the rising of the Folk Rock movement, Fender added an Electric 12-string guitar, the Electric XII. Forgotten for a while, the Fender Jazzmaster, Jaguar and Mustang experienced a renaissance with the advent of Grunge, Alternative and Indie Rock at the beginning of the 90s.
