If you take a closer look at the guitar with the serial number #1477 in the Telecaster Bible “The Blackguard” on page 143, you will immediately see which things have inspired us for this model built by Greg Fessler! An early Nocaster from 1951 is shown, all screws are designed as "slot heads", with the typical very light color (Nocaster Blonde) and the ultra-thin paint (one layer) that distinguishes them from the later 52 models.
Not all Fender guitars from this time had the strongly rounded 7.25 ”fingerboard radius. Probably no calculation, but maybe due to manual work, not a few models with flatter fingerboards were made. Nocaster No. 1477 was delivered with a 9.5 "fingerboard. We went a little further here and so this reissue has a 12 ”radius. The original was refretted in the 70s and received somewhat stronger medium jumbos, which are also used in our reissue.
According to the template from 1951, Fessler was able to let off steam in the usual way with the Heavy Relic Finish. The back of the neck and fingerboard are "really worn & dirty", the body shows strong signs of use and the armrest, which has been completely stripped of lacquer, shows a typical feature of Fessler’s craft with furrows worked deep into the ash wood.
Electrics: 2 hand-wound 51 Nocaster PU’s transform the fantastic basic sound perfectly to the amp. Instead of the original blend control configuration, a regular volume (with Tone Saver Treble Bleed) and tone potentiometer is used.
Additional notes: all slot head screws, reg. electric with tone saver, back of neck, FB, peghead worn & dirty, cigarette burns etc. End of frets straight not rounded. S.143 The Blackguard Nocaster #1477
