Daniel´s Guitars MD Myrtle/Redwood

The Modified Dreadnought is, as the name suggests, a modified form of the traditional dreadnought, which was introduced by Martin in 1930. About 50 years later, this design was completely reworked by the "godfather" of modern guitar builder Ervin Somogyi for the well-known fingerstyle guitarist Daniel Hecht. I interpreted this design in my own way. The result is increased comfort through a tighter swept-up waist and balanced sound.
The model shown here is already the third instrument that I was allowed to build for a good customer of mine. A modified dreadnought, equipped with a cutaway and armrest for maximum playing comfort. When choosing tonewoods, we went for a redwood top, myrtle back and sides, and a wenge neck. Not a common wood choice for sure to raise eyebrows from traditionalists. However, the end result speaks for itself! The desired sound was hit exactly. Powerful basses meet fat trebles. Warmth is present as well as clarity and brilliance in the overtones. The wenge neck ensures a quick response and long sustain. This makes it perfect for modern fingerstyle!
