Martin Custom Shop - "Luthier's Choice"
We have been working with Martin Guitars for many years now, and we have already received countless wonderful instruments from the factory in Pennsylvania. Including, of course, the excellent guitars from the Martin Custom Shop, which our luthier Daniel Ott has already been able to visit twice. We wanted to combine the traditional guitar building art of the Martin Custom Shop and the expertise of our guitar maker in a very special instrument. This is how the Martin 000-Custom Brazilian Rosewood "Luthiers Choice" was born!
Tonewoods & Construction
Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia Nigra) is among connoisseurs the ultimate tonewood for acoustic guitars. What was considered the standard tonewood for pre-war instruments is rare today and only available as old stock. Brazilian Rosewood has become incredibly expensive, should you find a good set of this wood. As a top wood, therefore, only one wood came into question. Adirondack spruce in premium quality! This wood is difficult to obtain, at least in high quality. The Adirondack holdings are very small and also rarely found in the best tonewood quality. The best woods are of course only processed with the best ingredients. The entire construction of this instrument will be done with hot glue (Vintage Hideglue). Hide glue hardens in a crystalline manner and thus guarantees an excellent bond between the woods and the best possible vibration transmission.
The devil is in the details! We wanted to create an appearance that exudes simplicity and elegance at the same time. Thus, plastic was completely dispensed with. The bindings are made of fine ebony and therefore fit perfectly into the overall picture. The 45 style rosette and the headstock veneer made from Brazilian rosewood are visual highlights. The bridge pins are made of bone, for both tone and aesthetics. In order to give the overall visual aspect an even more vintage look, the top is refined with a golden yellow "Aging Toner". The neck is made of mahogany and has a modified V profile. The short scale length in connection with light gauge strings and the 44.5mm nut width promise comfortable playability.
Of course, the sound of a guitar can only be described in detail once it arrives and had been played for a few hours. Nevertheless, the exquisite selection of woods and construction methods promise a lot! Brazilian Rosewood combines the clarity, deep bass and sparkling highs of Dalbergia woods with an incomparable warmth and lush overtones. In addition, there is the power and complexity of Adirondack spruce, which promises full individual tones and beautiful tone separation. These properties, coupled with the balance and comfort of a 000 shape, will result in a sound and playing experience of the highest quality.
This instrument is intended to inspire collectors and discerning players alike with an instrument that is characterized by first-class tonewoods and materials and that does not look cluttered, but convinces with tasteful details. We look forward to presenting this exclusive instrument to you in the coming year. If you have any questions about the instrument, please contact our guitar maker and head of the acoustics department, Daniel Ott!
