An SG with the "Les Paul" lettering on the truss rod cover? How can that be? Hardly imaginable today, but in fact the SG replaced the Les Paul Standard in 1961, which at the time was far too bulky. This is how this can be explained, with the actual "SG" lettering being used from 1963 onwards. The new flagship from Gibson was supposed to be slim and light in order to stand up to the competition at the time.

"SG" stands for "Solid Guitar" and is still one of the icons in rock music. Especially when a solid "board" is the order of the day, there is no getting around an SG. The ultra-thin body with an all-round contour milling ensures a light and extremely pleasant playing experience. The list of SG users is endless. The AC / DC hard rocker Angus Young has probably never been seen without his SG, and the early Carlos Santana as well as Frank Zappa, Pete Townsend, George Harrison and many others join this illustrious list.

Here is an excellent 1961 SG Standard Reissue model from the Gibson Custom Shop. Of course, like the original with the "Les Paul" lettering in the truss rod cover and the special Alnico III CustomBucker pickups, which cut an excellent figure in both clean and distort mode. Ready to rock!
