To get straight to the point: the pelt under the transparent pickguard is real and the corresponding comment on the spec sheet reads "cowhide pickguard from El Dorado". It is not yet known whether Vince shot the cattle himself while on vacation in South America. There is a video on the internet in which he goes into detail about the origin of this bass, but leaves the origin of the pelt open.
Anyway... this '59 P-Bass reissue makes it immediately clear why Vince Van Trigt has quickly become the most sought after MasterBuilder with a wait of over 5 years now. The aging is just something very special, this Precision lies wonderfully light in the arm and the sound is fantastic. Trigt swears by Rift Sawn Maple necks because of their special stability and this is also used here.
